This Chinese opium pipe measures a long 18.5-inches. Bowl measures 1.5-inches x 1.25-inch diameter. Crafted from heavy buffalo bone with light carvings of Chinese figures on the stem. For decoration or collection, but is actually functional. Picture shows full view and close up of same pipe.
Two-hundred years ago Britain started selling the Chinese opium from British India – to balance London’s trade deficit of Chinese tea and silks. China didn’t like foreigners’ breaking their laws and causing widespread drug addiction. The destruction of 20,000 chests of opium in Guangzhou resulted, after British aggression, in Hong Kong becoming a crown colony
